FRC Updates Guidance on Proportionality for Actuaries

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has released updated Technical Actuarial Guidance on Proportionality on 17 October 2025 to help actuaries apply principles-based Technical Actuarial Standards (TASs) in a proportionate and outcome-focused way.

The revised guidance offers practical examples, particularly in general insurance pricing, showing how streamlined documentation and communication can support high-quality actuarial work within tight timeframes.

The update responds to feedback from the TAS 200 consultation, highlighting the need for clearer proportionality guidance. The FRC emphasises that actuaries should tailor their approach according to the nature, scale, and complexity of their work while maintaining the reliability and quality expected under the TAS framework.

The full guidance is available on the FRC website.
